Following the success of the second edition of its Party Pooper film competition last May, the Cabane à Sang International Greasy Film Festival is launching its brand-new Keep it Weird! competition next month!
This first edition will take place on December 1, starting at 8 p.m. at the Ancien Marché Maisonneuve (4375 Ontario St. E.) in Montreal. Tickets are on sale.
The weird and absurd take center stage.
Inspired by the festival's notorious screening, the Keep it Weird! competition follows the same rules as Party Pooper, but opens up to a broader spectrum of genre cinema, benefiting an even more diverse pool of filmmakers.
Frank Appache, director and founder of Cabane à Sang, comments: "With this new competition, we're demonstrating that genre cinema isn't just limited to horror and science fiction. With their submissions, creators have shown us their passion for the genre and for things that are completely... weird!"
Keep It Weird! participants were invited to submit a strange, absurd or offbeat short film lasting 5 minutes or less, with a budget limit of just $200. An unusual object, varying from one edition to the next, was also required.
A promising first edition!
The Keep It Weird competition today unveils the names of its first crop, which promises to be very promising: The Corneau brothers (organisateurs de Cabane à Sang Jonquière, 418-555-JUNK), Patrick Meimari (Werewolf Babysitter, Eye See You), Charlie Agadjanian (777), Charles C. Richer, JP Langlois (The Impalers), Loudvic Beaulne (Pink Torero Kush), Gabriel Claveau (Punk Fu Zombie) and Robin Anctil (PBK, La Bataille de la Foi) are amongst the participants.
A jury award and an audience prize
For the first time in Cabane à Sang's history, an external jury will determine the winning short in the Keep It Weird competition.
The festival is proud to announce that Philippe McKie (Dreams on Fire) as well as Sam Proulx and Cédric Senécal, who won the Party Pooper competition last May with Sexy Joël, will make up this very first jury.
The public will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite film. The winner of the Jury Prize will take home a symbolic $200, while the winner of the Audience Prize will receive a pack of beers from our new sponsor, L'Espace Public.
L'Espace Public hits the Cabane à Sang stage
Cabane à Sang welcomes a brand new sponsor this autumn: L'Espace Public. Established in Hochelaga since 2012, the microbrewery has quickly risen to become one of the province's best with its unique products, including its sour craft beers that are highly appreciated by enthusiasts. This new partnership aims to raise the profile of local products and artisans.
Cabane à Sang also recently unveiled on its social networks the poster for its Keep It Weird! competition, signed once again by graphic designer and illustrator Alexandre Goulet, a loyal collaborator of the festival.
