Cyprian Hercka

Country: Germany

Born in 1978 in Katowice legend has it that Cyprian painted before he could walk. That may be legendary. But reputable sources state that he was actually already painting on the chair in his father's studio when he was two years old. Mind you, didn't paint the chair. He probably just wanted to try the oil paints. When he was just 10 years old, he invited to his first own exhibition. And as if he had already achieved everything an artist can dream of - this childish naivety - he quickly turned away from it after a few more group exhibitions. He discovered the world of film, and it opened up a whole new and fascinating world to the boy, who was still pre-adolescent at the time. He could now bring stories, pictures, models and sculptures to life in a much larger space than on paper and let all his abilities flow together.

As soon as he finished school, the inner unrest grew to continue pursuing his love of film. And so he stuffed his collected works under his arm and then spent two years as a permanent employee at a Cologne advertising agency. At a time when film was still almost exclusively shot and a lot of money was still wasted on music videos, he was able to gain deep insights into all production stages and a lot before, during and after shooting in various production positions on various sets learn from image, commercials and music videos. As a friend of analogue, he also lost his previous shyness and rejection of computers and learned there how to handle and use post-production tools that are still used today.

Then he got on his own two feet and started his own business. And immediately after that he toured Germany with his first short film at many short film festivals and was able to win one or the other prize and also received the honor of presenting it on screens in other countries of the world and overseas.

And from then on, Cyprian now directs films of all kinds across genres, shoots commercials or music videos, chases pixels across the digital screen, creates stories and worlds or visual identities on paper and in moving images.

And there is no end in sight any time soon.
